I brought this up many years ago to one of the Reagent Manufacturing Companies (cannot recall now which one it was....Immucor, Gamma or Ortho....or maybe one of the ones that is no longer around). When changes are made to Manufacturer's Inserts (and they can be as minor as a change in 1 word, which we can spend a long time searching for), it would be really nice if the Manufacturer would indicate the changes on the inserts (i.e. maybe italicize what is changed; or underline it; or highlight it......just give us a clue)! We want to catch the significant changes, but not spend an hour reading and re-reading the insert to find the ever-so-subtle and non-significant chan…

Is there a mfg that makes just the "r-set" portion of the panel? That is, an antibody screen that represents the antigens of all common clinically significant antibodies, plus those required by FDA, but is negative for D. It can be used when the administration of Rh Immune Globulin is interfering with the antibody screen, instead of going to a full panel (or having to selecting certain cells from a panel). I don't want to waste the time and reagents doing a full panel, and I don't want to ruin my panel by using up cells 5, 6, 7, for example.

Currently, my 200 bed regional hospital 45 minutes outside a metropolitan city uses Immucor Series 4 which contains MS201 and MS26 clones. I'd like to change vendors due to pricing. We only do weak D testing on cord samples or the rare investigation into a strong positive Fetalscreen sample or prior type discrepancy. I want to make sure we choose the most appropriate cost effective reagent for our hospital population. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to choose in the hospital setting? Maybe some pro's and con's for the different clones? Feedback on reactivity strength, etc? I'm considering the Bio-Rad blend.

For many years we have been using borosilicate glass tubes (12 x 75mm and 10 x 75mm) with a patch for writing on them to perform our blood bank testing that needs to be done in tubes. We currently purchase ours from Kimble-Chase - item numbers are 60A10BZW and 60B12BZW. As companies have merged over the years I guess things have changed because one of our blood bankers recently noticed some very small print above the barcode on the box of tubes that says: "For Research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures." I would consider blood bank testing performed in tubes to be a "diagnostic procedure", so we've gone in search of an alternate vendor for glass tubes with…

Hi everyone!!! I am doing some research into the potential of switching my facility to Rhophylac from Rhogam and I had a quick question. The last time the company was here (before my time:)), the safety device on the needle was not liked by some people - does anyone know if this has changed or can anyone give me feedback on what they think of the device? Thanks!!

I know there's been discussions about this before but I wanted to see some fresh perspectives. Does anyone have a recommendation of a decent quality management system that they use? We're looking for customizable forms/reports and preferrably web-based. Something with work/task lists for follow up and handling scheduled deadlines and QA/QC events would be great. Thanks!!

Our shipment of Rhophylac (Rh Immune Globulin) was delivered to pharmacy by mistake and was brought to us a day later. It remained at room temperature in the pharmacy for just under 24 hours. Will the potency or integrity of the product be significantly affected that we should discard the shipment, or is it safe to use?Thank you. Kathryn

Don’t expect much. I supervise a transfusion service in western New York. While in effort to complete monthly maintenance / decontamination I simply removed the cover of the machine to clean / check. All seemed well, but got a Board 3 error upon attempting to initiate. In short, no manner of probe manipulation / replacement or reboot could get past the error. I contacted service who could not amend, and was told someone would call shortly. An hour and a half later someone did who could not amend and promised a service tech would be in contact shortly. This was 11am in the morning. No call was received by time I left Friday, and the machine remains down most likely…

Have any of you checked out the Antibody Identification Software at www.AntibodyCheck.com? If you NEVER again want to spend hours searching pages of panel antigrams for select cells you should look into it. It is reasonably priced (believe it or not) and has saved us in the last 3 years countless hours of Tech-time.

Hi, This is my first post. I have enjoyed this website and have learned so much. I have recently replaced a Dade immufuge with a Heittech(Helmer) centrifuge. The techs have complained they can't pick up 3 tubes at a time due to the spacing between the tube holders. Has anyone exchanged rotors with a Heittech? If so, what manufacturer and model number did you use? Thanks, Judith
