Hello, Does anyone know if EPIC has a transfusion administration/positive patient ID system? Something used at the bedside to confirm that a unit of blood and a patient match up? Thanks!

As we are a level 2 trauma center, we are looking at going to the 5 day "thawed plasma" as part of our massive transfusion protocol. As I understand it, if you do convert your FFP or 24 H plasma to "thawed plasma" you must then print out a new "thawed plasma" label. As there are several "thawed plasma" codes and I do get FFP and 24Hr plasma from multiple blood centers is anyone using all the thawed plasma codes or just using one code. i.e. code E2702 is for thawed plasma, CPDA-1 code E2710 is for thawed plasma, CP2D code E2684 is for thawed plasma, CPD Also, is anyone converting FFP collected from Pheresis to thawed plasma? I do not see any ISBT128 codes to convert thes…

I asked Cliff to start this sub-thread in the ISBT discussion, hoping that some Meditech users could get their heads together. I am increasingly frustrated with this whole thing. I have compiled a list of the Meditech DTSs that relate to ISBT-128 (these are for Magic, I don't know about Client Server) DTSs: 10697, 10726, 10727, 12619, 13912,13936, 13937. And the Knowledge Base Articles are: 24250 and 24454. Are there other out there? My number one issue right now is: I need to be able to print ISBT labels for pooled products. I want to be able to print only the quadrant with the unit number/facility ID. Meditech is telling me I will not be able to do this with the Di…

We are currently converting 20 plus years of Hemocare data into HCLL and the question I have is how many records should I check before I can say with confidence that all the data was converted. I originally thought that I would be OK if I checked 10 patients for each and every antibody and special instruction. But I have concerns about only checking 10 patients that have anti-K and assuming that the other 3,000+ patients with anti-K converted OK. I then thought that we should check 10% but to check 20 years of data could take me 20 more years, so logistically that's not going to happen. Has anyone out there had a similar problem? Thanks Tim

If anyone has interfaced anything with Meditech, can you upload Antigen typing results? It seems that Meditech doesn't allow anything except "T-type" and "B-type" tests to be uploaded. We will be getting our Echo soon, and I hope this is wrong, because I'd love to run antigen typing on units on the analyzer and then send the results across on the interface. (That's being optimistic that we can get anything to cross the interface!) Linda Frederick

I have been given the task of making us ISBT ready. We do not have a technical supervisor not do we have a manager who is strong with Blood Bank knowledge- so I am struggling here! We have conflicting information. We prepare neonatal syringes for all components and perform the normal thawing/pooling plasma, cryo, etc. The way I interpret the AABB regs, for all of those products we must relabel with ISBT labels that are barcode readable. This would include product code, unit number (neonatal syringes), expiration date, and modifying facility ID number. Is this correct? Can anyone tell me about the HemaTrax system? We have looked at purchasing it, but obviously the cost is …

Need your help... We are currently trying to decide between Mysis (lab and Transfusion Services), Soft (lab and Transfusion Services), Cerner (lab and Transfusion Services) and Mediware (Transfusion Services only). Can anyone give me feedback on any of these systems?? Of course I am most interested in the Transfusion Services piece. I will take your feedback to those individuals that are making the decision. Thanks

When I logged into Blood Bank Talk, the banner displayed "Hello sjlevine it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?" My response to this is that I would visit and post sooner if I did not have so much work to do, particularly in the area of ISBT 128. I will say that what we have done so far has been a learning experience. We have instruments, such as the Abbott Commander, that will take ISBT 128 numbers, but leave them unprocessed, thus leaving it to us to process them before they go into our Blood B…

Link - http://www.fda.gov/cber/faq/barcodefaq.htm Frequently Asked Questions Bar Code Label Requirements for Blood and Blood Components Is it true that we must label blood and blood components with specific machine-readable bar code information by April 26th, 2006? Yes, under the bar code label requirements final rule of Feb 26, 2004, products subject to the rule, including blood and blood components intended for transfusion, must be in compliance by April 26, 2006. Hi all, I know this may sound unreal or even funny to someone, but it is not. I am s software developer who has a lot of experience in development of blood banking information systems. I am willing to participate and assist in the development of it. If anyone is interested in such things, I'm here. I would be happy, if nothing else, then talk about this subject. Thanks in advance Sanel Deljkic

On my website for free Codabar blood labels at http://www.geocities.com/dmpollock I am planning to start building ISBT labels. It will all take some time. I would like to know whether there is any interest and what would be most desirable. I have barcodes for testing I can load soon (expiration dates, test DINs, product codes). These are designed for testing and validation, not for labeling. I am planning to make ABO/Rh quadrant labels. Then components. These will be standard size and suitable for labeling units. Does anyone need any of this? If so, what would you like to see first? Does anyone need a reduced size label that is smaller than ISBT standards, but will still …

Has anyone used any validation software for thier computer validation? Software such as Cyrano, which runs a script on a PC to simulate normal and stress testing. Was it really a time saver? Did the cost of the software balance with the time savings? Were you happy with the results? And have you gone through any inspections (FDA or AABB) post validation?

We are in the process of developing our ISBT build for Cerner Millennium 2007.18. Our LIS person is curious if a one to one relationship for product build is the most appropriate way to go. If there are any Millennium users who have completed a successful ISBT build that would like to share information with us, please let me know. Thanks Chris

One thing a surgeon will tell you is that the hallmark of a procedure which is not really ready for 'prime time' is the sheer number of ways to do the procedure. IOW, if there are 10 ways to do heart surgery, it means that some of them are still searching for the right method and once the procedures mature, there are only one or two methods which are 'right'. If you extend this analogy to BB Computer systems, it appears as though there are -too many- and that no one has 'hit' upon the right method or type. The problem with 'Windows' based system is the way they do their menus. If you want to make a choice or two and each time you have to re-navigate the menu each time, yo…

We are a transfusion service that currently relabels thawed FFP as "Thawed Plasma" with a Thawed Plasma Sticker after 24 hours and a 5 day outdate. When ISBT is mandated, can we continue to overlabel, or is this considered a modification requiring a new facility identifier (ISBT unit number)...and if so, why is it ok to thaw FFP-a modification-and not require the same?? Both utilize the same "process". Thanks for any input!

We are in the process of narrowing our new Blood Bank software down to Softbank or SafeTrace Tx frm Haemonetics. Our new LIS system will be Beaker (our current EHR is Epic). We have heard pros and cons about both systems and are interested in users giving us feedback on their thoughts, especially if they have Softbank as a standalone (i.e., not part of the entire LIS system). All information is welcome. Thanks

We may be switching blood bank computer systems in the near future due to some consolidation/sponsorship changes.:raincloud We are currently using HCLL by Mediware and will be going to Sunquest for the whole lab. The last time I used Sunquest blood bank module, it was pretty bad. Does anyone have any newer experience with this system? Thanks!

hi I work in the National Blood Bank of Costa Rica, Central America. We don´t have any software system, so all our work and documentation are perfomanced manually. I´ll like to read about some of ur experiences with software, recomendations, good and not good points about particular options. We have an extremelly urgency, adquiering one, so a comertial option will be probably our better choise. In my country, two Hospital Blood Banks use "DELFIN", and Abbot propouse me "Blood Bank Soft". Please, let me know about more options and ur oppinion about them!

Hello! Would any of your meditech users care to share some of your rules and calculations? Meditech's knowledge base is sometimes lacking in what you need to build these things. A lot of the keywords have no explanation of how they're formatted when used. I'll start out with one I came up with. Filling in that patient history was checked when the specimen is received. I built a t-type test called PT HISTORY. It's default result code is "." without the quotes. This result code's text is "No History\FV". The other result codes are AN, AP, ABN, etc. The text for these result codes is "History On File\FV". The "\FV" files and verifies the result in case an…

I'm writing this post to confirm what other blood centers, like Florida Blood Systems, have already reported. Zebra ZM400 printers had a bug in their LPD software that made them unusable as IP printers from UNIX. If an lpd request to print 1 label was sent directly to the LPD server of the ZM400 printer from UNIX, the printer would continously print the label. This was because the Z400 printer did not appropriately acknowledge the network packets from the UNIX server and the UNIX print job would keep resending the label. As a result, we were forced to use the ZM400 with terminal servers. However, the latest firmware for the ZM400, V53.16.5Z, fixes the problem although th…
