1. Could it possibly be used to rinse the line of red cells in preparation for another fluid that would react adversely with residual red cells?
2. David, that came from the Oregon Health & Science University website: http://www.ohsu.edu/pathology/transman/adminbloodprod.html I was surprised dextrose in saline was listed as acceptable for rinsing lines.

Testing

Well, that made my day!
7. Check out Meditech Knowledge Base Article ID: 21770
8. We are MT 5.57 and use a Customer Defined Screen that asks "Has UATC been ordered?". The UATC is added to the patient's requisition. UATC is the Unit Antigen Test Count and we change the test count to the number of typings we did. Similar to Dr.Pepper.
9. In what version of Meditech is BCTA available?
10. I believe for some of these patients the visit to "the LAB" constitutes a social outing. It's a place to meet with others that have similar issues.
11. Probably any screen with a "refresh" in it would work. Does meditech 5.64 have the Pending Specimen Tracking screen?
12. Try google Anti-A1 titre transplant: Rising anti-A1 blood group antibodies preceded the second rejection and were reduced by two blood group-specific As and remained at a low level.
13. We worked with our organization's printshop and designed our own BBK labels. Wristband.doc
14. Could you create a Customer-Defined Screen with queries and have them enter Y for Qrys in the Make Components. It would be putting the cart before the horse but it would be documented.
15. It reminds me of Henry Ford: "People can have the Model T in any color - so long as it's black."
16. For Client Server page 6 of Customer Defined Parameters/BBK OE Add On Orders/Maximun Hours For Add On: You can add orders to existing BBK specimens to · reduce the number of blood draws the patient must undergo · eliminate clerical errors due to multiple product orders When a BBK product order is received from OE, the system searches for an existing BBK specimen for this patient with · the same prefix as the new product order · a collection time within the time entered at the Maximum Hours For Add On prompt · a status that is not equal to CANCEL · a total number of ordered crossmatches (old and new) less than the number at the Maximum Crossmatch Per Spec prompt in this routine If a specimen for that patient exists, then the ordered BBK product is added to the specimen in addition to any tests associated with the ordered BBK product (that is, if the tests are not already ordered for that specimen). The system searches for BBK product orders that are redundant (for example, the same product for the same collection date and time). If so, the order will be rejected instead of added. Orders are not split between specimens. If the entire order cannot be added to an existing specimen, a new specimen is created. You may also define a site and a printer where a message prints when a BBK product is added to an existing order.

18. This one looks interesting: http://www.thermogenesis.com/thermoline-thawers.aspx
19. All of the product codes for ISBT do have the collection/production date on the label.
20. You must create a worksheet to call tests onto it. Make one with QC and one without. Antigen Worksheet.txt
21. You could use an assignment rule to have a message appear if the marker on the patient does not match the marker on the unit. See Knowledge Base artical 5999.
22. One on one for each product you will receive is the way to go.
23. Does anyone have their barcode scanners set up to read the Donor# and Blood Type together (concatenated) and then the Product code and Expiry together? Our IT tech thought there was a licensing issue.
24. PammyDQ, We've been told that the computer cannot be programmed for this reaction but I think it's a lazy issue by someone. It's Meditech...... This is our setup. You could add any Result Code/Text you want. AA.doc
