  1. Unfortunately, we use those as back-up if all our other racks are dirty. I try to keep them clean so I do not have to resort to those racks. Honestly they do not hold the tubes well, and they do not provide an area to place your gel card. The racks we mainly used are white plastic racks with little fingers that stick out.
  2. I understand the security issues. I usually keep the tracking screen up at my workstation because I am the only user. The main reason I ask is because we have a dedicated computer for issuing units, and that is the one that always closes the issuing screen.
  3. If the DAT is positive we call to notify the nurse or doctor and do not pursue any farther.
  4. According to our procedure we give Hgb S neg units along with C,E,K neg units. We have a large population of sickled cell individuals in this area. Most indiv. who are sickle are neg for C,E,K antigens, and so to prevent future antibody creation and having to resort to rare donor cells we implemented that into our procedures.
  5. I agree. Since the child had multiple transfusions of 0 neg blood, the "real" blood type is being masked. We get transport babies all the time, and we have to confirm the original cord blood type with the facility who sent the child.
  6. Ok, I know the auto-close is a security feature. It would just be nice not to have to re-login every time I have to issue a unit.
  7. If the original unit of blood is spiked in order to transfer 50cc's then the expiration of the original bag goes down to 24 hrs. So if the baby needs more blood in 3 days. A new unit of blood should be x'matched.
  8. I work at Omega Diagnostics in the Blood Bank lab!
  9. Anyone figure out how to keep meditech 5.64 from auto closing the windows. Our lab used to have 5.55 and keeping the print screen up used to work.
