Small quantities of commercial anti-A,B

Does anyone know of a vendor who supplies anti-A,B as single vial purchases? I seem to only find 10 or 15 x 10mL packages. We only use it for subgrouping and we do not do enough for it to be cost effective purchasing 10 vials and outdating 8. When Ortho stopped selling single vials some time ago we switched to Immucor but then they stopped also.

Does the fact that they can't sell enough of the stuff give you a clue as to the necessity for using the stuff in the first place?

With most reagents being monoclonal these days I don't understand the need for A,B reagent, except to retype group O red cell products . . . Doesn't Ortho sell this as a 3 pack?

I have done that before with AntiIgG/C3d. If we get a 10 pack usually 8 of them outdate. It's a shame that the manufacturers don't consider the smaller accounts. They don't make as much money off of us. We need the products, but it is my duty not to waste money.

:nana:You can buy AntiC3d/C3b in a single vial. If you do any tube testing, you would use up a 10 pack of Anti-IgG. When we do a direct coombs on an adult, we use each reagent seperately and don't waste either.

Thanks for all the responses. We are in the process of deciding whether to drop the A,B portion of our testing althogether or setting up some sort of arrangement with another hospital.
