  1. You should have called and held the crossmatch, the patient is the important factor here, and if the crossmatch had been positive it could have been bad.
  2. I agree with Malcolm. The previous BB supervisor loved A,B for all group O patients. One of the first acts I performed after taking over was to get rid of the use of A,B. Not only was it not necessary, but in my opinion it is a waste of money that could be spent elsewhere.
  3. Printing the antigen information on the face label is not used in the US.
  4. I have "Cell Safe" transport coolers. They have inserts in them and come with freezer packs. I actually "lost" the inserts during a time when the coolers were not in use. I found that the hard tubs that the ALL detergent pods come in were almost an exact match in size, and since they were just a touch bigger they actually work better. By the way the cooler itself is made by Igloo.
  5. Occasionally I have a nurse that requests a transport bag, but otherwise NO bag.
  6. Does anyone have a lookback letter that is a stock form and they would be willing to share.
  7. So there you have it, in addition to the vast knowledge of the people on this site, both the ARC and AABB say the same thing.
  8. 20 ga is the smallest size needle that is allowed, with a preference toward the 18-16.
  9. WE DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT ACCEPT ANY TYPES FROM ANY OTHER FACILITY. Too many times we get types that disagree with what we get, and it is because they are sent to reference laboratories (not bb reference labs Malcolm), where there are upwards of 2000 - 3000 types done daily, so there will be mistakes. So long and short, I dont accept them.
  10. During off times nights and weekends, I am the go to person, and normally I do not come in but are able to resolve problems over the phone. If it is a computer issue, I have remote access and can dial in from home and fix any computer problems that might arise. In the very, very, very few instances when I may be on vacation or unavailable I do have 2 techs with which I have full confidence that the problem can be fixed. I have had techs call be while I have been in Branson, MO on vacation before, and normally I can help them out, even so far as computer problems since I do have the aforementioned remote access. As I have told the techs before, I would rather get a call before I have to solve a bigger problem, or walk into a problem with no heads-up.
  11. We read all DAT's that are negative macroscopically microscopically.
  12. Maybe that is why I have not seen my quote Ortho Rep. Also, maybe that is a good reason why I did not get any flack for installing a Echo instead of a Provue.
  13. That is generally the idea that I get around here. We are currently proposing a 6:4:1:1 ratio, especially for our mothers that decide to bleed heavily. 6 RBC, 4 FFP, 1 PltPh, 1 Cryo.
  14. What is the PC:FFP ratio to use during a massive transfusion protocol?
  15. All the update performed was enhancements to the inventory system basically.
  16. I have an Echo, and have ordered and bought the interface, but have not received it as of yet. Since August.
  17. hey David, why dont you post your information on this site, that way all will have access.
  18. the only stipulation is that FFP must be stored at <-18.
  19. How about neutralizing SDa's using guinea pig urine?
  20. Such misunderstood creatures, why can people just leave them alone, they just want to live and be free.
