tbostock
I am looking for a 3" X 1 1/2" label to use for crossmatch and antigen typing labels. I need them to be FDA approved for use on blood bags, sticky enough to stay on the bag, fluid resistant, smear-proof.Does anyone use such a label (even if the size is different), and if so, who is the vendor. Deny Morlino
Terri,Not sure about the FDA approved part, but we have used several different labels from Shamrock Scientific Speciality Systems for many years. Telephone is 800-323-0249 or www.shamrocklabels.com. They have a line of tapes and labels geared specifically for blood bank. Hope this helps. Mabel Adams
There have been long debates about FDA approved label adhesive. The last official version I heard was that the face labels put on by the bag maker and blood center may have to meet such standards but that all of the little add-on labels only have to meet the "do they work" rules. If you are really anxious about this, you can always use a tie-tag of various sorts and attach a separate card or label with that.
adiescast
My understanding is that if the label is in direct contact with the bag plastic, it must meet the FDA glue standards. Otherwise, it just has to work for your purpose.
tbostock
No luck with Shamrock. I'm thinking it will have to go directly on the plastic part since I don't want to cover up anything on the ISBT label.Mabel: the tie tag is a good idea if I can find one that the nurses can't remove too easily. I'll look into it...thanks!
