Two part question: 1. Measured Hemoglobin verses calculated hemoglobin and the impact it has on physician choices for transfusion purposes. 2. The good the bad and the ugly with POC instruments that measure/calculate hemoglobin such as AVOX, GEM Premiers, Hemocue, I-STATS and anything else that might be out there. Thank you in advance!

Currently using TelCOR as middleware, and I am aware of RALS (the Alere product)... but what else is out there that folks are using for connecting glucose meters, I-stats and other devices to the patient's electronic medical record.

Does anyone have experience with Dermatology offices who could help with some general information? We have a new dermatology provider joining our group. This is a new specialty for us. She will be sending pathology to a local path lab but evidently wants to look at the specimens herself in the office as well. If they are sent off for confirmation, is her review considered testing? If so, is it PPMP and thus needs a CLIA license? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi all, Just wanted to get an idea of what you are doing to review monthly QC on waived iSTAT testing? Currently, I make sure that cartridges were QC'd monthly and before any patient testing on new lot and results were acceptable.

I hope someone can help me. We perform waived CREA on iSTAT. What is the required frequency of qc? Currently, we perform on new shipment and at least every 30 days. I can't find any info on Abbott's website. I would like to drop the "at least every 30 days".

Hello ladies, I followed the advice of a few AACC listserve members and signed up for the PathLab Talk. Happy to have another resource and see some familiar names! I was never very active on the emails, but always read everyone's advice. See everyone around!
