C3d Positive DAT in cord blood.

We recently had an infant born to a mother with ant-Jka. DAT on the cord blood was positive, IgG only, no C3 (I tested it because of reading Malcolm's postings.)

The interesting thing to me was that while the Jka was 4+ in the Mom's plasma on the Echo (Solid phase), the cord serum was negative in gel and tube. Eluate from the cord cells showed the Jka antibody, 2-3+ in gel. We tested the cord serum on the Echo (we normally don't put those sticky cord bloods on our analyzer) and the anti-Jka reactions were 2-3+.

The baby had a bili of 7.5 when discharged at 2 days. Follow-up through physicians office, so I don't know if it went higher or not.

While Kidd HDFN is usually mild, wasn't the antibody first discovered because of HDN?
