Also - If you use Meditech 5.62, what system do you use to search for patient history when the system is not available?

You should define what is necessary - I would think ABORh, Antibody hx, special needs. Even when conmputerized, we generated pt record cards to have that info available.

I also use Meditech...I print the Master List every month and keep about 5 years worth. Otherwise, I consult the patients medical record.

Does your computer system have the ability (or can you build or buy a program) to download the necessary information to a PC in the blood bank? We have Sunquest and we download 3X a day to 9 PCs in various parts of the state.

We are Meditech 5.62 Magic. We have a backup history that sends the entire patient history to a PC and we also save to our HIS network.

We have the same thing on C/S 5.55, by far the best feature that an otherwise entirely mediocre system has to offer.

Can you tell me a little more about the download to a PC process? Is it automatic or do you go in each day to initiate the process?

It is automaticly downloaded to a free-standing PC, so if Meditech is down it's still available. All data in BBK history is there, plus patient demographics, specimen audit trails and other useful tidbits. It updates and adds any new data every 4 hours, so your backup (downtime) data is never more than 4 hours out of date. We've been up on Meditech for 4 years and did the historical conversion from our previous system (Mysis AKA Sunquest), so we have 15 years worth of data available.

We use Sunquest and download the files, monthly, and print a daily / weekly report, to a zip drive and on a file on a PC. If by chance we can't get to the file on a PC we can use the zip drive on another computer to view the info.

Any cerner classic user using automatic FHR back up? we have manual process. We need to import data to PC and do not have automatic import set up.
