O or group specific ?

Don't forget mom's type has to be figured in too. That's one reason why many places feel that using Group O is simpler.

That is one of the reasons we would not give type specific but I will argue long and hard that by giving type O you are just adding fuel to the fire by adding more Anti-A, Anti-B and Anti-A,B especially if you are not using ADSOL units. I can't believe I'm saying this but simpler is not always better.

If a non-group-O neonate is to receive non-group-O Red Blood Cells that are not compatible with the maternal ABO group, the neonate’s serum or plasma shall be tested for anti-A or anti-B.

it is just like a hint to use group O is it?
