  2. EPIC does not have 510K approved blood bank module so test orders and results can be processed from EPIC CARE to BEAKER to BB system and back to same route. Product orders has to come directly from EPIC to BB system and crossmatch results from BB system to EPIC. (Product order can not come through beaker). I totally agree that you need to be involved in EPIC beaker build...most IT department do not care for blood bank and they will do whatever they want without involving Blood Bank. They like control!!! total control!!!

  4. Thank you for the kind words and wisdom. Moments ago I received a call from the high risk doctor who scheduled me for molecular testing. Just as an FYI for anyone interested or those who may run across this topic out of need in future, she volunteered the estimate of $450 and said it will take 5 - 7 business days to get results. Thanks again for the insight; I feel encouraged.

  5. A fetal screen is essentially adding a weak anti-D to patient cells and incubating; the Immucor kit is a 5 minute RT incubation now, I believe. Then wash and add indicator cells to form rosettes, if the test is positive, and count them. Far easier than a KB. A lot of things are simple that aren't easy. I'd take a 15 minute process over a 30 minute one any day, and skip staring through a scope for very long. Edit: That said, they definitely test for different things! We dumped fetal screens because they too situational for us to stock the kits.

  6. Terri no doubt has an elegant solution involving packing foam, but have you called Helmer? Their tech support is very good. I'm not aware that the scribes can be adjusted but you never know...Short of that, you could replace the scribe, readjust it every morning (you're probably looking at it daily anyway), or learn to live with it. An hour is not much of a space on that little disc; I'm happy if my techs just get the right day of the week and AM or PM. The purpose, beyond satisfying AABB and CAP, is redundancy to your alarm system to see if your blood got cooked while no one was looking, and to see if an unfamiliar tracing might indicate a potential problem down the road. The batteries, by the way, are only for backup with a power loss and shouldn't have anything to do with normal operation.
