Storage of crossmatched vs non-crossmatched units

Wondering if there are any regulations about storing crossmatched vs non-crossmatched units of red blood cells on the same shelf.

Also, do you store different blood types (ie A pos and A neg) on the same shelf as well?

I think you're fine as long as they are separated and your shelves are clearly labeled.

I segregate my xm and unxm units.  xm go on the top shelf (all types), unxm are in shelves underneath.  I store unxm by groups O+/O= on one shelf, A+/A= next shelf; B+/B= and AB+ on next shelf.

I have the luxury of enough space to separate types, including Rh pos and Rh neg, but I agree with everyone. Separation and labeling is the key. Make sure that you have a procedure that spells out your system and that it is to ensure that the possibility of the wrong unit being selected for your patient is minimized and you should be fine.
