  1. Our Reference Lab issues "historically antigen negative units" without retyping them. I am interested in learning how many of you reconfirm the antigen types when you the units in your Blood Bank. I know that it is double work and charges, but I worry that a clerical error could have occurred at the Reference Lab.

    elo guys

Welcome. Sorry it took so long.
  3. :clap:I saw the article on you in Advance! Congrats!
  4. Those are some of the reason I declined. You would be held responsible. I also don't think untrained people "signing out blood" is a good idea either. If they are mainly going to do total joint replacments, I don't think the Pathology specimens will be big ticket items.
  5. :disbeliefI am guessing that you are located in Southern Indiana. That surgery center is asking everyone to provide blood for their surgery patients. I declined due to the regulatory issues and the complications that would have to be dealt with. I believe there is such a service in the Northeast U.S. (?Puget Sound)!
  6. We have both. I STRONGLY encourage everyone to have an online procedure manual. My hospital was flooded in June and we lost everything, including the paper copies. If we didn't have the procedures on line (which took awhile to be restored), we would have had to recreate them all.
  7. Tried prewarmed gel, but gave it up and went back to tube prewarmed. It seems the cards centrifuging for 10 minutes at room temperature is a contradiction yo the prewarmed theory. If you succeed, please post it!
  8. :tongue:We have never done that if the antibody screen is negative. We do include an autocontrol with antibody identififications.
  9. Helmer:) Helmer:)Helmer:) They are a sponser on this web site. It is a good company with good products.
  10. :)We use 10 days if the patient has not been transfused or pregnant in the past 3 months. We used to use 14 days, but many of the reagent package inserts limit the life of a specimen to 10 days. This works well for our pre-admission department who likes to bring patients in 7-10 days before surgery for their blood draws, etc.
  11. I have been in Blood Banking for 30 years, and have never done routine Blood Bank testing for T&As. It is a wast of insurance money. I would surprised if they didn't question that practice. My hospital is 325 beds.
  12. I am jealous of the fact that you do not have to monitor the nursing practice of transfusion. The State Board of Health in Indiana holds the Blood Bank responsible for the nursing documentation of transfusions. You can imagine how that goes over with nursing. :bonk:It has becaome a hugh labor expense to monitor 4000+ transfusion tags annually. We also have to notify them when anything is wrong or missing and they have to return documentation of the action on the matter. You are fortunate.
  13. Those web sites are awesome! You did a great job. Thanks!
  14. Thank you so much. Steven said he would mail it. Everyone has been so kind.
  15. Does this only apply if you do not a have a blood type on the patient?
  16. I also have not had any problems with the 800 number. Although I seldom set eyes on the Ortho Rep, my Ortho Rep was EXTREMELY helpful to me when I had to replace everything we had becasue we lost it all in a flood. She bent over backwards to get us everything we needed to reopen 5 months later. We did it all my email and phone. You have no idea how hard it was to reconstruct a department and she made it easier. You probably caught someone at Ortho on a bad day.
  17. Sebra is great. They last for MANY years.
  18. We will miss you. Good luck.
  19. Does anyone know if the reagent manufacturers still make the posters that have antibody frequencies on them? We lost ours in a flood.
  20. What expiration date do you use on a 20 liter plastic carboy of saline?
  21. Our phlebotomists draw the blood sample, spin it, and give it to the patient and the dentist takes it from there.
