How did you hanlde the ability to meet retion of records from you old system to meet the critera of CAP, AABB, FDA

We require a slip with the patients minimum name and medical record number and a faxed give orderor a copy of the give orders when the come to pick up the product. The slips a the same blamk slips the floors use when the lab's IS goes down.. We are changing our BB computer systems so we are thinking about changing our checkout procedure requiring more info when we isssue.

We must have a Doctors order before we do a titer, but we send ours to our referance lab. We may only do 3 or 4 a year, but we do show our Medical Technology students how to do them.

We will be starting to implement our new blood bank system on Aug 24th. We are going from Hemicare which we have used for 3 years to Horizon(SafeTRace TX-Wyndgate) any suggestions that might help I have only seen a 20 minute web based demo.

You are not the only one confused. I was wondering the same thing. We are only CAP also.

Thanks. We are working with surgery to develope the policy and procedure which before our inspection surgery could not find there policy. The inspector wasn't happy because the new policy that was being written did not include any thing about quality control and had not been reviewed by the Laboratory Director.

On our last CAP, Inspector sighted the bllood bank because surgerys, procedure did not state what they did for QA, we have been quarlerly getting a samole for culture and HCT. Would be intersected in how other handle this. I have just taken over as blood bank supervisor.

Currently we are using the Hemicare Blood Bank System but will be changing to the Horizon System/McKesson any suggestions on how to handle the training of the Technoligist and what kind of training was provided by Horizon, and whats the best way to go concerning the validation process.
