  1. I would be interested to hear how many Blood Banks refer their KB Stains to another lab, or do flow cytometry instead. We have periodic problems with getting unacceptable answers on the CAP Surveys for KB and nothing seems to be causing this, except that I feel it is a marginal test at best. Only a few techs are "good" at counting these and they get tired of doing them. Opinions are welcome.
  2. Our refernce lab requires that we complete a form with all of the info we know on our patients that we refer to them. If it is not filled out correctly they call us and "review the instructions" for filling it out! It's only fair to give them all they need.
  3. We don't get a specimen routinely. 99.9% of the Caths don't need us.
  4. We use a Modify Products function in our computer(Cerner). For example, we modify a leukoreduced RBC to an irradiated leukoreduced RBC which has it's own computer code and charges. For CMV-, we add on a charge and add the attribute CMV- to the product in the computer. We keep track of the patients with a patient comment function in the computer. If they fail to order the special products, we call and ask if they want to continue to use special products. Sometimes they discontinue the order, in which case we add an additional comment. We also set up "dummy" antibodies (Anti-CMV and Anti-Irr) which work like antigen/antibody verification and alert the user in result entry. Hope this helps.
  5. Where do you obtain your Thawed Plasma labels?
  6. Where do you purchase your Thawed Plasma labels? I can only fing Thawed Fresh Frozen Plasma labels? Ordering info would be great.
  7. I would be interested in how others are handling plasma frozen within 24 hours. Do you use it interchangeably with traditional FFP? Did you change the name in the computer and on the transfusion tags? Did you inform your medical staff? Did they understand or show an interest or concern?
  8. Do you include all nursing units? What about ED,OR, Cardiac Surgery?
  9. I would also like to see your checklist. Thanks for sharing. mpipik@crh.org
  10. Try 86999 (other). Mary
  11. We set up "Bill only" charges to pass these reference lab charges to the patient.
  12. We have Cerner Millenium 2005.02. Does anyone do an on-line review of the Patient Results Activity Report, Product Results Activity Report, and QC entries by a Blood Bank supervisor and not print these reports? Also, does anyone use an Exception Report for Blood Bank and if you do what results do you send to this report? Thnaks.
  13. Good thoughts. I think we need to take a stand on these new requirements.
  14. Does anyone have a contact address or phone number for the manufacturer of the Blood Loc system? I couldn't locate it on the web. Thanks
  15. What guarantee do you have the the other sample (i.e.CBC) was not mislabelled?
  16. It is CAP TRM.30575. What a controversy this has created!
  17. I am considering purchasing an Ortho Provue. Our LIS is Cerner Millenium, 2005.02. I would apprecaite hearing from any of you who have experience with this interface and whether or not the interface is needed. If you have a Provue and not Cerner, I would also be interested in your opinions about the Provue. Thanks.
  18. What validations do you do on the tube system? How often?
  19. Thank you so much. My lips are sealed!
