spavlis
How are donor adverse events in your facility being reviewed? How is your Medical Director involved? Does the Medical Director review and sign ALL donor adverse events? Does the Medical Director review and sign only selected donor adverse events? Does the Medical Director review and sign the donor adverse events in a summary format... (monthly report) Does the Medical Director just reviews the donor adverse events... no signature required. Trying to figure out the role the Medical Director should play in adverse events. Thanks Stephanie
David Saikin
While I do not collect donations anymore: in my current facility we did only autologous (licensed): the Medical Director reviewed and signed off on all adverse events. In a previous facility we drew 95% of our transfusables: the Medical Director only signed off on "significant" events - pretty much everything except dizziness. We did not count giving apheresis donors Tums as a reportable event.
Smarty pants
Only moderate or severe AEs require MD review. All minor events are reviewed by nursing staff to ensure that they're properly categorized and were appropriately managed. (Moderate/ Severe are categorized as LOC, additional medical intervention (call 911)...) spavlis
