CT ratio

Hi all,

I need to know what other indicators other than CT ratio be used to monitor blood utilization when a Blood bank of a 40 bedded acute care hospital procures blood from a central Blood bank and issues it to its patients.

In other words, What indicators may be chosen to monitor blood banking services in a hospital of this sort?

Can you share your thoughts.

Dr. Kumar

Monthly reports may also include information such as:

Total # of units transfused (broken down into components)

# and kinds of transfusion reactions reported

# of massive transfusion cases

# of technical errors

# of clerical errors / corrected reports

# of specimen labeling errors (broken down into types and who collected them)

# of wasted blood products (& reasons)

# of QC failures

Total down-time of instruments/equipment (& reasons)

Turn-around-times of Stat crossmatches

# of complaints (& reasons)

I am a 40 bed hosp; transfuse 400-500 rbc, 40 fp, 10plt / yr.  We monitor:

specimen integrity. review manual test results and their interpretations entered into HIS, QC, unit history from receipt to final disposition; review of pt records, environmental control, instrument funcion/maintenance; temp of blood shipped (we are an overstock), and completeness of transfusion records by nursing.
