Posted August 19, 201410 yr comment_57024 We are expanding services at our hospital to include neurosurgery. So the surgery department will be wanting to store the bone flaps from the decompression surgeries. I am trying to find some reference materials or a kind person that may be willing to share their process. Thank you!!
August 20, 201410 yr comment_57034 We store ours for up to 6 months in our -70 C freezer. The same one we store other frozen bone in. Our surgeons know that we will toss them as expired after 6 mos. Scott
August 21, 201410 yr comment_57053 Life Net also has a process where they cleanse and store. Shipped out directly from the OR, stored at Life Net, shipped back for re-implantation. That way, you are not a "procurer" and have less regulatory burden.
August 21, 201410 yr comment_57058 I only have one experience with bone flaps. The surgeon performed the original surgery at our hospital and the bone flap was in our surgery Ultra Low. Then the surgeon decided he wanted to do the second surgery at a different hospital and he wanted to take the bone with him. Oops, sorry, you can't carry bones from one hospital to another becasuse that makes us a "supplier" with all the regs that go along with that. I told them we would be in deep with FDA and they would be crawling all over us. That was the last I heard of it.
