KKidd
One of my techs asked me this question yesterday - if there is nowhere in the lab for adequate storage of platelets due to a power outage (room temp > 24C), how long do you have to transfuse them? I only know that the storage temp is 20-24C . Any takers?
tbostock
Never heard of a reg for that scenario...good question though. As soon as the platelet reached 24 and it looks like the room temp is going higher, I would put them in a shipping box (call your blood supplier and see what their validated time for platelets in their shipping container is...they should be able to tell you the length of time you can put it in the box without agitation and how long it will retain temp). tkakin
