Thawed Plasma Expiration

For those of you who have converted from thawed FFP to Thawed Plasma (5 Day), are you setting the thawed product expiration to '5 days' (meaning 2359 of the 5th day) or 120 hours exactly?

I can't seem to find anything in AABB Standards or elsewhere that addresses this.

Just wondering...

And Thanks,

Linda Frederick

This was discussed extensively at an AABB annual meeting a few years ago. Whenever a period is expressed using "days" it would always be 2359. If the expiration period is expressed in hours then it would be to that specific number of hours/minutes. The analogy is similar to 3 days for a sample for compatibility testing vs 4 hours after pooling Platelets. The example that was used at the meeting was if you thawed a plasma product on Monday morning at 8 AM, the expiration date would be Saturday at 2359. Now getting some computer systems to work that way may be another issue.......
