Posted September 23, 20213 yr comment_82512 How is everyone implementing Day 4 bacterial testing of platelets. Has this been mandated by FDA to be completed by Oct 1?? We currently test Day 5,6, and 7, but Day 4 seems to be a challenge. Any ideas would be appreciated!
September 27, 20213 yr comment_82518 We're not using platelets on days 6 or 7. We transfuse about 50 a day, that could be a lot of work for us.
September 30, 20213 yr comment_82521 Most of the ones we get from our suppliers are the 7 day bacterial testing so we don't need to do the testing. If a single donor is only 5 days, we will test on day 4 and 5. We also use some acrodose that aren't tested.
October 19, 20213 yr comment_82572 Both our vendors are collecting either LVDS (large volume delayed sampling) apheresis platelets or Pathogen Reduced or both so we aren't implementing the Verax testing. We do, however, accept <3E11 platelets (low volume) LVDS if there's no other option. Implementing the Verax testing would be really complicated because 80-90% of our platelets are split at least once due to the size of our patients/children.
