Not to be argumentative but we blood bankers tend to be overly paranoid.  What is the percentage of units you recieve from your supplier that are incorrectly labeled aborh?  How often does units get mistakenly placed on the confirmed shelf, picked up by a tech, crossmatched and released for transfusion, all before your LIS is back up?  I think if you really look at the odds of a negative outcome situation that would be averted by the use of a sticker, you'd see that your fears are really unwarranted.  Risk is never truly mitigated completely.

I feel your pain.  We just started immediate spin only last year.  People were against it at first, but they have come around.  I just had lots of data available so show that no, this isn't crazy.

We do a prewarm, no IS phase.  Which I know is a controversial procedure in itself.

It takes some work, using several items in the BB dictionary: QC, test, entry screen and worksheet; and everything has to match.  If they say it can't be done, press them.  It can, and I am not even a LIS person!

There are always things that make you scratch your head a bit, that you dare not go above 6o for a second during storage, but that 10o is fine during shipping. Or that you cannot send RhIG through the pneumatic tube because it might be subjected to undue turbulance, but the shipper can kick the hell out of it and throw it in the back of a truck with bad shocks to jiggle along a bumpy road on its way to you.
