  1. We, too, use Complement Control Cells
  2. We tested our samples, and found no difference bewtween the old formula and the new formula.
  3. We recently participated in an update teleconference with CAP, and they stated the blood bank armband will not satisfy the requirement for preventing errors. Although the moderator would not provide information as to what is considered as a mechanical barrier against error, it appears they are looking at barcode readers on all patients.
  4. Ours happened on the last possible day, so it really was no surprise. We have conducted a few, and have selected Wednesday or Thursday for the day. The date we try to plan somewhere in the middle of their cycle. We have experienced relief on the part of the staff where we have conducted the inspections.
  5. As far as I know, daily QC is not done on the blood warmers, other than the manufacturer's recomendation of preoperation checks at the time it is used.
  6. Our Biomed department is responsible for the semiannual testing of the blood warmers. They are very good about performing PM's for all of our electronic equipment throughout the organization.
  7. We also use the expired cells for rule-outs. It is specified in the SOP for that purpose. This has not caused any problems with AABB or CAP assessments. We do not do any antigen typings on the expired cells.
  8. We perform daily QC on each new lot, and it has satisfied the AABB and CAP assessors.
  9. The Blood Center of Wisconsin http://www.bcw.edu is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The web address I am sending will link you the many educational opportunities they offer. Hopefully you will find what your are interested in!
  10. Our supplier in Milwaukee, WI has a very good SBB program in their Immunohematology Reference Lab. They are BloodCenter of Wisconsin. You may inquire there to see if they offer what you need. Shari
  11. We replaced one of our Baxter Immufuges with the EBA 21. It works well, and the technologists have had few problems with it. Shari
  12. I have enjoyed this site since I first discovered it. I agree with John that a "Blood Bank Talk for Dummies" would be a great idea. I have been able to navigate through the site, but do find it difficult to find my way around at times. Thanks, Shari
