Hi all Echo users- we are now in the installation/training process with our new Echo and see that the Capture basic panel does not have an autocontrol. While technically I understand why it doesn't, what do you do for panels where you have no auto control to check against all positive cells in a panel to rule out or an a warm auto?

I'm not an Echo user, we have the Bio-Rad Tango.  But I think it's important to have your auto control done in the same methodology as your panel.  So with our panel we set up an auto by "crossmatching" the patient with himself, which is essentially what an auto control is, an "auto-crossmatch".  We put some patient cells in a tube and call it the donor, and the patient's plasma and order an AHG crossmatch.  It works great.  Maybe you could do something like this with your Echo.

We run the DAT on the ECHO with the Ready ID panel.  I set up a Ready ID/DAT profile for this.  We only do Autocontrol if using our back up method.

We also run a DAT on the ECHO.  This way it is run with the same methodology.

OK, thanks, Our trainer said that running the DAT on the Echo with or after the panel a is what many Echo users do!

Just a quick update. We decided against purchasing the DAT on the Echo since it doesn't have the  complement component most of our MDs are looking for. But yesterday, I had a strong cold panel on the Echo and followed it up with a "crossmatch" of the patient's serum and cells and it too was positive. Manual DAT was negative.

As I made the "donor' cells I realized that their consistency was different from a traditional donor segment since it had no additive mixed with the red cells (other than the EDTA) so I added a tiny bit of saline to keep the cells somewhat fluid and the Echo seemed fine with that. I' m still thinking about the value of this but it was easy enough to do so I did it
