SMILLER
For the PFA-100, we have been running wet QC (known normal) every week (or trying to remember to, anyway). When we get a new shipment, we also run more extensive QC including abnormals at the time. It seems as though we should be able to drop the once a week requirement. We are not even sure why we started it years ago when the analyzer was new. Anyone have any comment on QC requirements for this analyzer? Thanks, Scott
nziegler
we run "qc" once every 30 days (more accurately, whenever we get a normal patient - seeing as how we only test 3-5 patients per month). we also qc a new lot number. we'll draw a co-worker that we know works if need be. SMILLER
No abnormal QC at all? We use a aspirin spiked normal for the EPI, and EDTA plasma for the ADP. Thanks, Scott
nziegler
We only report up to 160 seconds, so we don't do any abnormal controls.
falgunijoshi
we report Collegen / EPI and ADP in sec with comments as: Platelet disfunction detected by the PFA-100 may be acquired, inherited, or induced by platelet inhibiting agents. Uremia may cause platelet disfunction. Hematocrit < 35% causes prolonged closure time, and HCT < 20% causes significantclosure time. Studies show that significant increases in closure time when the count of functionally normal platelets is reduced from 200,000/ml to 50,000/ml with a constant hematocrit. The following are expected patterns observed with the PFA-100 tests on normal subjects and subjects with various disorders. Reference Interval (sec) Collagen/Epinephrine 95-185 Collagen/ADP 65-120 Normal ASA vWD Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia Col/EPI Normal Abnormal Abnormal Abnormal COL/ADP Normal Normal Abnormal Abnormal I hope this will help u
jojo808
We follow reporting very similar to "falgunijoshi's" facility. As for QC, we run it at least every 6 months or whenever we get a new lot or shipment. I believe the 6 month came from the manufacturers recommendations.
