Audible alarm Check

Is it enough to just know that the alarm can be heard on a daily basis by holding the door open until the alam sounds or must you simulate an overtemp situation to be able to say that the audible alarm is working. We do quarterly alarm tests and calibrations.

Alarm testing must be performed 'regularly and frequently enough to achieve and maintain personnel competency and to detect malfunctions' according to AABB and CAP regulations. I'd say checking an alarm's ability to be heard daily would satisfy that requirement since not being able to hear it would qualify as a malfunction. The way you're doing seems fine.

Alarm checking on a daily basis sounds be a bit excessive to me, esp if it means exposing your inventory to major temperature fluctuations. Unless you have a history of problems with the device or with the remote setup, even the ability to easily electronically test something doesn't mean it must be tested.

Following the manufacturer's recommendations is always a good rule. Even the Tech Manual says their recommendations don't have to be followed.

With the door-ajar alarm, we usually inadvertently "test" it on most days, when somesome failed to close the door completely ...
