  1. Is anyone else having trouble getting plastic dispo control drop pipettes. Both sizes of pipettes from Immucor are on backorder until the end of November. A substitute we just ordered a couple of weeks ago from Fisherbrand is now on backorder. What gives? Are there any other acceptable subs.
  2. At our institution we made up new CDM codes, RAREDG (rare deglyced), RPCALI (rare leukoreduced irradiated), RAPCA (rare non-leukoreduced) etc. .....6 in all to take care of the different types of products we receive. CPT codes used were P9039, P9016, P9021. Blood has to meet certain criteria to be considered rare by our supplier. Example: antigen negative for 2 RH's, Kell, one Fya, one Jka, one Ss.....or, negative for Kell, 2 RH's and both Fya and Fyb.
  3. We also have Helmer DH8. Liked the first one so much that we got a second one. It's a little nosier than the first one for unknown reason. They have made some improvements since the first one. Baskets are now all stainless instead of being powder coated. As our first one got older we noticed some flaking off of the powder coat which clogged the drain. Of course you can get replacement baskets for a nominal fee. Would like to also see them make the lid where it can just be lifted back out of the way instead of taken off. I'm sure if there are overhead constraints this wouldn't work...problem is where to put the lid when you are using the waterbath. We also have a Thermogenesis but most techs like the Helmer better.
  4. We are setting off just the door ajar alarm.
  5. Is it enough to just know that the alarm can be heard on a daily basis by holding the door open until the alam sounds or must you simulate an overtemp situation to be able to say that the audible alarm is working. We do quarterly alarm tests and calibrations.
  6. The acceptable range for thawing plasma and cryo is 30 to 37 C. We have a note in our SOP that states, "A temperature <38 C is considered acceptable for the required 30 to 37 C range required by Standards for thawing plasma and cryo." We can't find the source of this statement . We've looked in Standards, Technical Manual, all the obvious places. Has anyone seen this statement in print anywhere?
  7. Has anyone else received word of yet another Immucor price increase effective January?
  8. At our institution we volume reduce platelets for our pediatric patients, averaging about 10 per week. Currently we use a Sorvall RC3C floor model to accomplish this and are interested in a replacement. What are other insitutions using. Does anyone have any experience with the Rotanta 460 or 460S made by Hettich. It is a table top model.
