Centrifuge recommendation

We actually use the Hettich EBA 21 with the Immucor Capture-P assay and the head that uses the strips. We do have the head for serologic testing but the techs have complained that it's too hard to change the head out...any suggestions on how to do this quickly?

Unless you are not a busy transfusion service and can take the time to change heads just get another centrifuge. The price you pay will be more than off set by the productivity you will gain.

We bought three of the centrifuges Linda mentioned three years ago and they've worked great. The only complaint was that they were so quite the techs couldn't tell when they stopped.

We have 3 new Helmer (Hettich) EBA 21 centrifuges, one for specimen tube spindown and 2 for serological work. We also have 2 new Helmer (Hettich) UltraCW cellwashers. All are excellent. Work with the Helmer Inc reps online or by phone - very fast answers and very fast response with quotes. The EBA 21 has approximately 10-15 different heads (2 for serological work - fixed or swing out).

Personally, I wish someone would come up with a new version of the Baxter Immufuge II. I just love them! What a workhorse. I have used the Helmer EBA 21 and feel it is an OK piece of equipment, but I don't like the larger footprint of it. Also, for limited routine spinning it is sometimes faster to punch in a time and hit go, rather than scrolling through menus. I know - I am showing my age! A company in N.J. took on the project of duplicating the Immufuge, a number of years ago, but it never really took off. I am still hanging on to two very old Immufuge II's in hopes of some company out there realizing the need!
