Training and/or Continuing Education Forum

Being a part-time instructor at a local community college, it might be helpful to have a forum for educators or laboratory staff involved in planning continuing education opportunities. I am always interested in the types of activities others might plan.

I would love to see this taking form and progressing. In other words, there is a need for more convenient (and inexpensive) continuing education opportunities for laboratory staff. Individuals who achieved certification within the last few years are now required to have a certain number of Continuing Education hours every year in every lab department in which they function! (One of the few times that I'm glad I'm so old!)

No only is it an expense and burden of the newer laboratorian, but it also becomes a burden to the test of us who have to cover the workload and shift while the newer laboratorian who is away for a three-day seminar somewhere.

It would be great if some of the specialists or experienced techs in a geographical area would organize some local workshops/seminars to meet these Continuing Education requirements. A little advice or participation or financial support from some of the manufacturers/suppliers would be great, too.

Could not agree more.
