    We do NOT use washed red cells as a standard of care. We use aliquots from leukoreduced red cells that are inadvertantly spun. We do not routinely use CMV- and/or irradiated.

    When we began, we didn't charge because it was felt that the lab was doing this to increase revenue. But now, as it has become a standard of care, we do.

    Even though we use an electronic crossmatch we REQUIRE that all transfusion recipients have a second tube drawn for an ABORh type prior to transfusion.

    We limit ABO incompatible plt txs to no more than 5 units per pool.
