  1. We are doing the same - O Pos for males and women over 45 and O neg for women of "childbearing age". Those O Negs would probably get switched over to O Pos fairly quickly if someone was bleeding out. AB plasma - A if we run out. I know that our regional coordinators (ORBCoN) here in Ontario and CBS would LOVE us to come up with a better policy, but we aren't a huge facility and I don't feel like the time spent on creating new protocols for the super slim possiblity of getting an Ebola patient warrant my time
  2. We do this several times a year as well. But like David says, above, we get 100% compliance each and every time. So, is there something else you do instead?
  3. Our pathologists do not have anything to do with the Blood Bank here, either, let alone comment on antibodies. The least senior pathologist got stuck with being on our Transfusion Committee....
  4. I really like Harmening as well. Had the third edition as a student and am waiting for the current addition to arrive!
  5. We separate our plasma from cells as well... But, for those who do separate, what are your policies for how long a sample is good for? We have a policy for pre-op samples that allows us to use their plasma up to 28 days after collection (no tx or preg in < 3 months), so I'm thinking that they should be separated. I love the idea of skipping that step, tho.... S
  6. I've added a couple of pictures of the workstation. There are no wells for tubes. The incubator and centrifuge are combined. As you can see, we have rigged up an MTS card with a thermometer to monitor the temperature. S
  7. Thank you.. maybe this is something we could look into. it seems like there is a lot of duplication on the nursing side of things. I'll have to look into everything on their side
  8. We have one. We ended up rigging a thermometer on a MTS card so we could monitor temps. I can't believe that 1. they designed that way and 2. we didn't notice before purchasing it!
  9. Hello everyone, Long time lurker - don't usually post. I did a search to see what all you brilliant people had to say about the documentation of vital signs. I'm doing an audit here, and it seems our nurses must document on the blood bank paper record as well as online in their nursing module. We use Meditech (Client Server 5.66) as well and I've never heard of this TAR. So, this post is from quite a few years ago. Any updates or thoughts about TAR or any other way of documentating the vital signs? S
  10. Hi - we use a blood gas analyzer as well (First time poster - glad to have a ready answer!!) Sandra
