BBNBHM got a reaction from AuntiS in repeat antigen typing that was performed by reference labAt this time, the patient is being double-billed (for the reference lab testing and the inhouse testing.) Whether the patient pays the bill or not, I do not know. This practice has been questioned by many, but so far, the policy is still in effect.
Thank you everyone for the responses! You guys are so helpful!

BBNBHM got a reaction from jayinsat in MS in Clinical Lab Management with SBB Option at Rush UniversityIs anyone currently in or ever been in the Rush University dual Masters program for Clinical Lab Management with an SBB?
I have been researching online programs for about a year now and this one seems like the best, but it is very expensive...almost $600 per credit hour with a total of 65 credit hours required to graduate.
I have emailed the contact person regarding basic info such as clinical requirements, graduation rates, etc, but would like unbiased opinions, thoughts, experiences. This is a lot of money to invest in something that may not be as good as it seems.
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

BBNBHM got a reaction from mprado in blood bank results documentationI currently work in a blood bank where all the techs complain about double documentation, excessive amount of writing, and loss of time due to documenting every move that is made. So, my question is, how much documentation of patient results is actually required to meet the joint commission standards? At this time, we document everything we do on paper including antigen typing (along with qc) then enter all these same results into the computer system (Cerner). Is this necessary or can we just go straight to the computer with our results?

BBNBHM reacted to John C. Staley in Antibodies Identified at Another FacilityThanks for the responses. I've discovered over the years that blood bankers love to live in the land of "What If". You can be confident that I own a large home right in the middle of that land.
I'm finding that patients are taking a more direct hand in their care and are much more knowledgeable than they were 30 years ago. While info from a patient should be confirmed if possible, much more often than not they are reasonably correct if not complete in their info.

BBNBHM reacted to R1R2 in coolers for open heart surgeryI like the Credo cooler. It stays cool (1-6 C) for over 12 hours. The inserts need to be stored in the freezer before use so you would need extra coolers.
