hnab got a reaction from gagpinks in Setting fridges alarms for low and high alarm
Thank you Scott
That makes sense for the alarm settings.
What is the the rationale behind the 1C tolerance limit between the chart and the displayed reading?
If both are calibrated +/- 0.5 C. I assume both could be out by 0.5 C on the opposite end of the temperature scale, hence the 1C?

hnab got a reaction from A little lab lost in Uncertainty of measurement in blood Transfusion
Please help. I have read around the subject of uncertainty of measurement to comply with ISO15189, but I am still not any wiser.
i don't think I am allowed to declare any uncertainty about my blood group results as this should not be variable otherwise my parents would be in trouble. But what about that anti-E that disappears with time? Only to re-emerge after a 2 unit transfusion at another hospital ??
Has anyone had that awkward conversation with the assessor about uncertainty with their results?

hnab reacted to Malcolm Needs in Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Blood Transfusion Society.
Just had a FANTASTIC time at the BBTS ASM, where I learned so much.
The highlight for me was listening to Marion Reid giving her James Blundell Award lecture (amongst many other excellent lectures) and having her sign my copy of the FactsBook! The attached photograph shows her talking to Martin Bruce OBE, the BBTS President. The other photograph shows some old fool relaxing after the lectures!!
Worked hard - played hard - now exhausted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hnab got a reaction from Eagle Eye in Cyto-therm waterbath
Been using the cytotherm- D4 for over 4 years.
The thermostat switches off the thawer if the temperature is too high. The unit will also alarm if the temperature goes 1 degree above thawing temperature or if the plasma leaks.
Can get messy if their is a leakage. But otherwise am happy with it.
