David Saikin
are you talking for patients or donors? I don't think there is any defined 'period' for a lookback.
khalidm3
Thanks David, It will be in both cases, if a donor is reactive and we have to look back his previous donations or the a patient get TTD/TTI due to transfusion. The policy is required by CAP TRM.47320 Donation Tracking
David Saikin
Usually the time frame for a pt developing a possible TTD is a year after the last transfusion . . . BUT there is no regulatory guidance that defines a period for that lookback. The way you handle donoris is appropriate.
profbaud
The time frame according to AABB tech manual for look back:HCV extend back indefinitely for computerized records if supplemental testing was not performed or back to Jan 1 1988 if computerized records not available. For HBV: indate components extending back 5 years or 12 months from the most recent negative test for units that were RR confirmed or if confirmatory testing not performed.HIV: Test recipients of units that were donated at least 12 months before last known negative tests and if these are found to be negative, then you don't need to go back further. This is taken from Chapter 26 of 15th edition. the 16th ed. of the technical manual is not as clear as this copy, so I keep it on hand. khalidm3
Thanks Profbuad, I have set Syphilis=One year, HIV, HTLV= Indefinitely, HCV 10 years, HBsAg and HBc for 5 years. I will discuss with my medical supervisor and may change HCV indefinitely also. Thanks for pointing to 15th edition.
