Billing for washed LR RBC

Code is for Washed RBCs. If the unit is also leukoreduced, does the same code apply or should P9054 which states leukoreduced, frozen/deglycerol/washed be used? If the unit is then irradiated, is the code P9057? Does the washed in forzen/deglycerol/washed refer to a washed RBC unit or to the washing process of a frozen/deglyced RBC?

I'm not sure if I understand all of your questions, but I'll take a stab at them.

1. I think the code for a unit of Washed Red Cells is P9022. (I don't think you want to use code P9054 unless the donor unit has been glycerolized, frozen, then washed to deglycerolize.)

2. If a unit of Washed Red Cells is then Irradiated, I believe the code should be P9040.

3. I think the "washed" in "frozen/deglycerolized/washed" refers to the washing process necessary to deglycerolize the red cells.

This isn't my specialty, so corrections to these statements are welcomed!
