suhu Posted February 29, 2008 Share Posted February 29, 2008 Are there any requirements regarding the irradiating of platelets in terms of affecting their shelf life?Does anyone irradiate platelets and then store them for later transfusion?If so, does the expiration date stay the same? galvania Posted February 29, 2008 Share Posted February 29, 2008 BSCH (UK) Guidelines state:Gamma irradiation below 50Gy has not been shown to produce significant clinical changes in platelet function.Recommendation. pdavenport Posted February 29, 2008 Share Posted February 29, 2008 The same is true in the US. The expiration of platelet products is not effected by irradiation.
