  1. Does anyone know if there is a minimum time that a new refrigerator has to be set up and monitored before I can switch the blood over from the old (to be decommissioned) refrigerator? Would 24 hours be adequate? Thanks, Maryann

    OP transfusion

We use SoftBank and have the option for billing an "Alternative Stay", that is, putting in the billing number on the day of transfusion at the time the blood is signed out. Of course the transfusion slip still has the original billing number, but the nurses often cover it up with the correct number by pasting the patient's hospital identification sticker over that old number. It crosses over into billing correctly and we have not had any problems with it.
  3. Hello, I just now ran across this question 6 years after it was posted. The small hospital that I work at is now going to begin using their MIDAS module for transfusion tracking. Apparently they have the MIDAS program and have used it for other Quality Assurance monitoring, but have never opened the transfusion module. Once I begin using it I will post again on how useful it is.
  4. Hi, This is possible and I have seen it twice in my 31 years of working in the field. Both times the Rh positive person was full Rh positive and not a Weak D, and in one of the cases had been transfused. I checked with my pathologist at the time and it has something to do with being a "partial D" and being able to make immune Anti-D to the piece of the D antigen that the recipient lacks and the donor has. In each case I informed the ordering physician that the person needed to wear a medic alert bracelet that they should receive on Rh negative red cells.
  5. I have registered with ICBBA and printed off sample labels for validations, but have the problem that the expiration dates that I have located are in 2005 and my LIS system (SoftBank) is upset when I attempt to barcode in an expired unit. Has anyone else had this problem with their validations? Thanks
  6. Has anyone heard anything from the Minnesota hospitals as to the impact on the blood banks and blood supply from the bridge collapse this week?
  7. Hi I am from a small community hospital in New Hampshire. We are in the process of dissolving our management from LabCorp to the hospital itself, and as of next week we will be hospital employees. A big piece of what we are doing is implementing a new LIS system. We have chosen SoftLab (SCC) from Florida, and I am busy getting SoftBank up and running. I will begin validations right after "Super User training". Does anyone have any hints about how to begin validations? I think we are waiting for a "Camtasia" that will capture all my keystrokes and avoid all the "print screens", but I'm somewhat clueless. Thanks.
