  1. Has anyone used Check Sample (not Tech Sample) from ASCP before? It says it is for pathologists and experienced lab personnel. There is one for Transfusion Medicine and it is 175. per year which includes 8 shipments. You can use it for unlimited participants and they each get 44 hours of credit per year. Frankly it sounds too good to be true!
  2. I have heard others saying that because of some new JCAHO reg that all orders for RhIg must be reviewed by a pharmacist before release. Does anyone have more info about this? Must something change everytime I turn around?
  3. Our LIS and Blood Bank all use Misys. We went live last year and have been quite pleased. We are looking forward to the new version of Misys blood bank possibly next year.
  4. Dawn, Do you have the i series or the Horizon series? I'm wondering if the i series is worth the extra money. Also does your refrig do the high/low alarm checks? If it does how does it work? Thanks!! Jane
  5. I was wondering if any of you have experience with Helmer Blood Bank refrigerators? I am thinking about asking for one this coming year. Thanks, Jane
  6. 1-Albumin- Pharmacy 2-Clotting factors- Pharmacy 3-Rhogam- Blood Bank 4-WinRho- Pharmacy 5-IVIg- Pharmacy
  7. I was wondering if anyone else is in the same situation that I am in: Our hospital collects only autologous donations for surgeries here- so we do no testing and don't ever send the units out of our facility. Does this new barcoding thing mean that we have to get barcodes for our unit numbers and our facility- even though no one will ever read them since nursing isn't required to be able to scan the barcodes????? Please Help!!!
  8. I have a question about the new FDA ruling or proposed ruling about barcoding and none of the current forums seem to fit because we are not a donor service. My hospital performs collections just for our use here. Thanks!
  9. We use Misys computer system. The checklist that I'm using now has the computer stuff built into it. Thanks for your reply!
  10. I am also thinking about changing to the new standards but as I am pregnant myself this will be after my leave.
  11. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their training checklist for new employees with me. I work in a hospital blood bank and we get a fair amount of new employees to train- mostly 2nd and 3rd shift generalists. I feel like our training process is not rigorous enough because we seem to continually have problems with new employees. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!
  12. I don't work in a donor center but I was a platelet donor for a while at our local ARC. Other than movies or TV to watch while you donated and a snack, there weren't any free gifts or giveaways. I liked doing it because I knew I was doing something important and the people that worked there were all very nice to me. I had to stop going because my veins just wouldn't hold up to being stuck that often. Maybe you should survey your donors to see what they would like or survey the ones that don't return to see if you can find out why.
  13. We do have a microscope in the blood bank. We use it to look at DATs for transfusion reaction workups. Our fetal bleed screen test also has to be viewed under the microscope. Sometimes it just makes us feel better to look at something under the scope!
