  1. Hello - You mentioned you might not be spinning your tubes "fast enough or long enough". What rmp's are you using and how long are you spinning?
  2. Hello Everyone, What is everyone doing once they have found a positive IS crossmatch, but the gel crossmatch is negative. I can go ahead and prove there is a "cold antibody", but that does not prove ABO compatibility. We already re-type our donor units, and preform two ABO/Rh on two separate patient specimens. Can we give type specific units, or do we have to transfuse group O. Seems to me, if we must perform IS crossmatch to verify ABO compatibility then if the IS crossmatch is incomplatible we should be transfusing group O. Thoughts? Help!
  3. Does anyone have additional references to back this practice? I need additional information for my Transfusion Committee. Thank you.
  4. We are currently transfusing ABO compatible cryoprecipitate only. I am aware of a few facilities that only use group A cryo and are transfusing group A to their group B and AB patients. AABB technical manual states, "Because CRYO contains ABO antibodies, consideration should be given to ABO compatibility when the infused volume will be large relative to the recipient's red cell mass." I am looking for additional information, references, experience others have had. Thanks for your help.
  5. Hello, We have had the same issues within the last approx. 8 months. We switched to immucore when Ortho had their product issues a few years back. I do not remember having as many positive reaction as we have had lately.
  6. We currently do not require a second blood type on a a new specimen collection if no previous history is available. We plan on changing that very soon. For those of you requireing a second specimen are you preforming both a forward and reverse typing?
  7. We are currently preforming an ABO/Rh, AB screen on patient sample and of course confirming the ABO/RH on the autologous unit. No crossmatch. We just discussed dropping the AB screen on the patient because they rarely take a unit other then the autologous unit. Are most people preforming an AB screen on these patients?
  8. We are currently moving in the same direction. I will be presenting to Transfusion committee in May. Question for the group - Does anyone specifically require the second specimen to be collected by a different phlebotomist, nurse, etc.?
