  1. Hi everyone,

    I am building some new Apheresis Plasma product codes into our LIS, and am trying to figure out which ISBT code I can use for the 5-day expiration "Thawed Plasma" labels. Can I just use E2121 (Thawed Apheresis PLASMA/ACD-A/XX/refg) for all of them?

    For reference, here are the products:

    E4689 – Apheresis FRESH FROZEN PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|1st Container

    E4693 – Apheresis FRESH FROZEN PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|2nd Container

    E4697 – Apheresis FRESH FROZEN PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|3rd Container

    E4701 – Apheresis FRESH FROZEN PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|4th Container

    E7637 – Apheresis PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|Frozen <=24h|1st Container

    E7639 – Apheresis PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|Frozen <=24h|2nd Container

    E7641 – Apheresis PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|Frozen <=24h|3rd Container

    E7643 – Apheresis PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|Frozen <=24h|4th Container

    E0869 – Apheresis FRESH FROZEN PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C

    E1624 – Apheresis PLASMA|ACD-A/XX/<=-18C|Frozen <=24h

    Any help with this is so appreciated! Thanks in advance :)

  2. Hello,

    My facility is trying to determine whether or not it is necessary to perform weak D testing on Rh negative cord bloods (Rh performed in gel). As far back as our LIS can go, there has never been a weak D identified for a cord blood that originally tested as Rh negative in gel.

    I am unsure of how to interpret TRM.40780 "Maternal RhIG candidacy assessment must include the identification of weak-D phenotype newborns".

    I know there are previous threads on this topic, but most are quite old. Currently, do you perform this testing at your facility? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

  3. Good morning! This is probably a very dumb question and I'm sure I should know the answer from school. On Ortho antigrams (maybe all brands? Our facility only uses Ortho so that's what I know), what does "+s" mean for the P antigen? We consider it positive, but what is the s?? A student asked me today, and I couldn't give her an answer. Thanks in advance!

  4. Would anyone be willing to share their SOP's for "tubing" blood products? I am trying to get this started at my facility (even though it seems like everyone else has been doing it for years!) and am already getting lots of questions. I figure being able to explain what others do might help! Thank you in advance! :)

    Edit: we do not have the capability of "secure send" or scanning units/badges with our tube system
