  1. Hi All This site is great however I was wondering if anyone with transfusion experience would have the time to mentor/tutor me with more complex case studies ? Please message me or send me contact details if you know of anyone else in the field that might be able to do this. Thanks
  2. Is there a standard way of performing an auto control ? I have seen an auto with rr panel cells. If someone could explain Thanks
  3. Just wondering now that is is 2017 whether there have been any incidence of anti-K being produced from a donor transfusion of red cells that were K antigen positive to a K antigen negative patient? Thanks
  4. Hi Malcolm I thought that but then what confused me is that the order of clinical significance starts with blood groups Rh (dosage occurs), KELL etc. Realise that KELL only some times exhibits dosage and that the risks of using heterozygous expression to rule out is acceptable as you have discussed in other posts. Thanks for clarification
  5. Great answers. I am also assuming that the ruling out rule is only for the panel cells not the screening cells? In that case if the example of the heterozygous anti-C negative in IAT and 1+ enzyme was the only cells you could exclude then in effect you are only able to rule out one cell ? The justification for finding r'r' Jk(b-) red cells fair enough but what if there was not an anti-Jkb ? Would you still rule out with one cell? As there are several antibody blood group systems that display dosage not all of these are included in the guidelines 6.2.6 so why these three in particular ? Could you give the possible rationale ? Thanks
  6. Also has anyone excluded a heterozygous anti-C negative in IAT and 1+ in enzyme (because in theory Rh should be enhanced). The panel also has an anti-D and Jkb Thanks
  7. Hi All Just a few questions on ruling out. Section 6.2.4 describes at least two examples expressing the antigen I am assuming this applies to IAT and Enzyme testing reactions separately (assuming antibody reacts by enzyme) and also that this can be homozygous or heterozygous expression of the antigen ? It does state in 6.2.6 that a single example can be excluded if homozygous for anti Jka/Jkb, S/s and Fya/Fyb. Thanks
  8. Hi All Just a generic question on audits. I can see that most of the audits required for accreditation add value to understanding performance and targets but could anyone describe some that are mandatory that they feel are irrelevant or a waste of time. I am doing some exam questions and trying to understand more than the blood bank perspective. Thanks
  9. Hi Malcolm CAT. I repeated with positive result. Sample I remixed and centrifuged an tested again when at room temperature. ? Anti-HI cold sample issue ? Or Secretor rule ? Will read more on that topic yeleng 22 Thanks for feedback
  10. Yes 37 incubation an patients I selected just pre op samples previously tested nothing out of ordinary ?
  11. Hi Everyone I am currently studying and decided to do some ABO experiments with patient samples but with some odd results. Wondering if anyone could shed some light ? I cross matched a mix of incompatible red cells with patients plasma to see if there would be a difference in strength of ABO incompatibility. The AB and B red cells with the group A plasma gave negative results ? AB red cells with group B plasma was positive I.e. a group B patient being cross matched with AB red cells All samples were Rh D positive to avoid any incompatibility with that issue. I also repeated them with the same samples and got the same results. Thanks Moira
  12. Great reading ....good point with electronic issue thanks
