The AABB considers Rh immune globulin a derivative. See the Glossary in the BB/TS Standards:

"Derivatives: Sterile solutions of a specific protein(s) derived from blood or by recombinant technology (eg, albumin, plasma protein fraction, immune globulin, and factor concentrates)."

The retention period for AABB for derivatives is 10 years (5.18.2.1 and 6.2E). At least it's the same period as blood products so one system should work for both...

Thanks for your reply to this question. In the interim I have also checked with the CAP (College of American Pathology) and they OK'd that type of process too!

We do it the same. The pharmacy dispenses and we report the percent fetal hemoglobin. I think the nurses do the calculation, though.
