Is anyone using the ortho poly specific AHG gel cards? And if so, what do you think of them. We rarely use poly and our tube reagents have outdated. We are considering giving these a try and want information. Thanks Karen

We use the ortho poly cards, and we no longer order the tube reagent. We only use them for our DAT testing, which we only perform when doing an antibody workup or if a doctor specifically orders the test. We QC them on the day of use by running a positive IgG coated cell, a negative cell and a complement coated cell (we purchase these from Immucor and dilute them to 0.8%).

We are exactly like swede and love DAT's in gel. Cards have a long outdate and only need to be QC'd "day of use" so if you do it in the am and someone gets one in the pm then QC is done for the day! It's fast too.

We use the poly specific gel card for our adult DATs and any transfusion reaction workups. Easy and clear to read. We QC these cards day of use. We use the IgG cards for our baby's and when the poly specific gel card is positive.
