Relocating Transfusion Services

I am the Transfusion Services Section Head of a 150 bed hospital.

We will be moving to a new location in the hospital mid October.

What should I do to certify the equipment is functioning the way it was in the old lab. Equipment includes cell washers, refrigerators, freezer, platelet incubator, centrifuges and heat blocks. We do not have Blood Bank analyzer.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

You will need to perform validations just like you did when the equipment was new. Whatever you did then will need to be repeated. All electrical checks and outlet checks will need to be performed as well.

I am of the understanding that all equipment moved will have to undergo certifying it as new equipment which isn't a big issue with most...but refrigeration is an issue to have to undergo more frequent checks on temp monitoring than usual! Back to new refrigerator issues for a period of time...eg instead of every 3 months ...every months for 6 months...until you establish they are op-erating properly...then back on to quarterly schedules .....of course that applies to state inspection schedules...which may require monthly checks anyway!
