  1. We use single use oral Temp a Dot. They are from 3M.
  2. I would like to pose an interesting thought. We track technically unusable (TU) units by employee number. If an employee has a bad venipuncture and another team member comes and "saves the stick", there is no way to record the assist. The original team member gets the "credit" for a good stick. That then shows as a favorable "TU" rate at the end of the month. However, the team member might really be in need of retraining and the numbers don't reflect this. Any ideas as to how to track those employees that always need an assist? Sue
  3. I was wondering what methods other blood centers use to help phlebotomy staff do a venipuncuture on a difficult vein. Do you use a clear cleansing solution, skin markers, sterile gloves, or other methods? Aid in venipuncture would result in decrease in our technically unusable rate.
  4. Our facility has asked me to investigate various companies or software that will enable us to put our training modules on our network computers and allow trainees to acces them and take test on-line and such. I have looked at Knowledge-Forge and their K-Books. Anyone else use other products? What do you like or don't like about them. Are they easy to implement? Are they easy to enter your own modules? If you use K-Books, why did you go to them?
  5. We are having a hard time getting our screeners to ask more detailed questions about a donors trips to Mexico. Does anyone have any good ideas or tools that work so the right questions are being asked? There is nothing more embarrassing than having to call a donor back a day after their successful donation and asking them for further details on their trip, and then having to tell them they are ineligible to donate for a year. They always ask if their donation the day before will still be good.
