  1. Bob, I think you are on the right side, in the sense that you care and are helping so many people with your expertise. I attend the ISBT and AABB, but they never were able to answer certain questions. Thank you, I think I'll stick around here. Maybe I can also help while being helped. Liz
  2. Dear BC, The Flow people wont do our viability test with Trypan blue and the microscope. But as an alternative test for CAP I can try the 7AAD on the flow. I'll see how it goes with them. Thank you Liz
  3. Dear Rcurrie, Thanks for your reply. We do have a flow, but in another section of the lab. I use the trypan blue stain. I don't know the 7-aminoactinomycin D stain. the flow section get their own survey which includes what we get , so its also repetitive for them. Of the survey we only perform what our section does and thats the viability. Would using the second stain be an alternative, do you have a ref I could refer to for the procedure? What about the flow, what did you have in mind? Thank you again Liz
  4. I have to use an alternative method for the Proficiecy testing required by CAP, we are accredited. Working in Lebanon, the PT survey samples sent by CAP arrive lysed. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternative testing for viability of stem cells ? Thanks
  5. What kit / method do you use to autoabsorb? Thanks
  6. Being the Medical Director of the Blood Bank I can give you the following info briefly which I hope is helpful. The chair of the committee must not be the BB Medical Director, it is usually chaired by a surgeon. The BB medical director must serve on the committee and can be the secretary. We meet monthly and we are not an executive committee but we recommend to the Chief of Staff and through him things get done. On our agenda: C/T ratio Monthly blood utilization reviews, the indications are very strict. : these are performed by our residents and cover 20% of transfusions in a new dept. each month Transfuaion reactions. Increasing donation awareness Blood drives and campaigns Assuring In-service training to the housestaff annually Perioperative autologous blood usage any new problem that comes up, and many other activities. It is a very active committee with many accomplishments. Finally, we have chosen indicators and these are reported to the bOT. Then there is the yearly report that is read and distributed to all by the COS.
