  1. We do not perform computer crossmatch here and I am very interested about computer crossmatches. I've asked a friend of mine who is SBB, he said the way the guidance is written if clinically significant antibodies are not detected then you can rely on computer crossmatch but if there is ABO typing problem you can not. As for performing IS in addition to gel, he said blood bankers have different opinions but those who get inspected by AABB and FDA will definitely perform IS to be compliant.
  2. Due to shortage we trained generalists to work in blood bank, scary some techs use pre-warm or saline technique when the reactions are weak on gel cards and report results as negative. Sometimes able to catch the error have repeated and have found significant antibodies. Unfortunately our supervisor refuse to recognize there is a problem.
  3. a very good discussion! A lot of hospitals do go through this experience and a lot of times the most inexperienced techs have to deal with it. Thank you
  4. Just a nightmare scenario! What if you have a patient in critical condition needing transfusion with multiple antibodies. All Antibodies have been identified but have difficulty finding antigen negative units.Which of the Blood Groups should one try to find first. Which one would cause more damage.
