The South African National Blood Service has just completed an evaluation of the WADiana Compact Analyser. For us, it is the ideal analyser for our Immunohaematology department, because of the wide range of tests that can be performed. An added bonus is the fact that it is a very user-friendly machine. We utilised the following criteria for acceptance: 100% compliance with confirmation of ABO groups and Rh blood type results 100% compliance with Antibody Screens for detecting the presence of clinically significant antibodies. 100% compliance with Antibody Identification of clinically significant antibodies. 100% compliance with Crossmatches performed (including transfusion reaction investigations) 100% compliance with Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT) results 100% compliance with Full Phenotyping results 100% compliance with Reproducibility results 30 samples (with known results) were used for each of the above mentioned tests, however, for the reproducibility testing, 5 samples were repeated 3 times.
