  1. When I still worked in a hospital we had a surgeon call us and ask for FPP, we told him he couldn't have it NOW because it took 20 min for us to thaw it. The doctor responded that he didn't care, wanted the frozen blocks brought up to the OR and he would stick them in the microwave. How scary is that?
  2. I heard a good one from one of my new coworkers. She used to be a pct in the ER at one of the hospitals in town. There was some horrible accident and they brought a decapitated corpse into the ER (they still couldn't find the head after the accident, I can't remember what she said had happened). A nurse called her over to get help placing an IV line. The nurse said something to the effect of "I'm having a hard time getting a flash, think you can help me out?". She responded with "have you looked at your patient?", apparently the nurse didn't even notice...how sad is that.
  3. yep, that color code is correct. That's what we used at the hospital I worked at this last year. The files were very pretty after a while, and when going after a specific patient you were familiar with you'd know what color to look for. It made things a little easier to find, but then had to deal with all the misfiles. They had gone paperless a couple weeks before I left the hospital this December though.
  4. Yeah really, I was nervous when I got my first IV in my hand! I guess if you're a drug abuser though you'd know where to get into your own veins.
  5. it was a screen name I picked up years ago. I tried to spell it with a c instead of a k, but it was already taken. So I've stuck with the k's from there on out. I used to love those wafers, they were one of my childhood favorites.
  6. Oh I can safely say jcday az (or Jean) has taught me tons. She was one of my inspirations for wanting to specialize and persue my SBB. I can safely say there is a ton I don't know about blood banking, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Hell, I'm only 23 so I think I'm doing pretty good so far. I am one of those people who wants to know EVERYTHING though, so I will be doing some poking and prodding. I've already learned a ton in my week of being a reference tech. I'm very excited to be going after a profession I love, so don't be surprised if any of you get private messages from me trying to pick your brain.
  7. Just wanted to drop a hello to everyone! I'm a relatively new blood banker and just browsing through these forums is making my head spin already. I worked for a year and a half in a hospital lab, and just started with ARC as a reference technologist this month. It's nice to have somewhere to come browse all these topics that are still new to me. If I ever respond to anything with a wrong answer, you can blame miss jcdayaz since she's the one who trained me from the ground up at the hopsital
